Colonoscopy Preparation
Location: PIEDMONT HOSPITAL GI LAB
(Circle one) Report directly to the hospital GI Lab in 77 building on _________________ at _____________ am/pm.
Enter at Collier Road entrance. Park in the “North” parking deck. Take elevator to the bridge level (BR). Sign will say “Bridge to Hospital”. Get off at the bridge level.
Walk over the glassed in covered bridge. Turn right and then left. Look for sign to GI Lab. Check in at the window when you enter the GI Lab. You will be registered there.
DIGESTIVE HEALTHCARE ENDOSCOPY LAB (Our Office)
(Building 95, Suite 4075) Report to the office on _____________at ___________ am/pm.
Enter at the Collier Road entrance. Park in the “South” parking deck. Take the elevator to the “Orange Level”. Cross over the glassed in covered bridge.
You are now in the 95 building. You do not have to check in at the hospital. Go up to the 4th floor and look for Suite 4075. Sign in at the window.
If someone is sitting at the window, let them know you have arrived.

2 WEEKS PRIOR TO
PROCEDURE
IF YOU ARE ON PLAVIX, COUMADIN OR ANY DIABETIC
MEDICATION, PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR PHYSICIAN…REGARDING ADJUSTING YOUR
MEDICATION.
IF WE REMOVE A POLYP, WE WILL LET YOU KNOW
WHEN YOU CAN
START BACK ON IT.
ONE WEEK PRIOR TO
PROCEDURE
STOP TAKING ASPIRIN,
IBUPROFEN, MOTRIN, ADVIL, VITAMIN E, IRON SUPPLEMENTS OR ARTHRITIS MEDICATION
FOR 7 DAYS PRIOR AND 10 DAYS AFTER YOUR PROCEDURE ESPECIALLY IF YOU ARE GOING
TO HAVE A POLYP REMOVED.
YOU MAY CONTINUE TO
TAKE CELEBREX AND VIOXX UP UNTIL YOUR PROCEDURE.
Procedure
Preparations
1. On
the day before your procedure begin a clear liquid diet. You may have beverages
such as tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, strained fruit juices, Popsicles (NOT RED) Jell-O (NO RED JELLO), broth or bouillon. No creamed soups or milk products. You may have clear
liquids up until midnight the day before your procedure.
2. You
will receive a prescription for ONE of the following: Colyte, Golytely or
Nulytely. Solutions are the same, just different brands. This is the liquid laxative
that will cleanse the colon for your procedure. Prepare and chill the Nulytely
the morning before the procedure. When taking this prep please stay close to
home (bathroom).
3. 1:00 pm- Take Dulcolax (4) tablets. {IF
YOU PLAN ON BEING AT WORK THAT DAY TAKE DULCOLAX AT 8 PM}
3:30 pm- Take Reglan (1) 10mg this will help with the nausea and
bloating.
4:00pm to 8:00pm- Start drinking the Nulytely solution Drink an 8 oz
glass every 15 – 20 minutes until ALL has been consumed and the returns
are clear. {You can take clear sugar
free lemon drops, mints etc. in between each of the “Nulytely” prep} Clear
results are clear, yellow or green colored water. You may have sandy sediment
that sinks to the bottom of the toilet.
This is okay. If you are not able to drink the laxative and or begin
vomiting, please call 404-355-1690. You should begin having results within 1-3
hours. Should you feel full and nauseated while drinking, stop drinking for 30
minutes then resume.
4. NOTHING TO EAT OR DRINK AFTER MIDNIGHT
BEFORE YOUR PROCEDURE. If your arrival time is noon or later,
you may have 8 oz of a clear liquid before 7am and then nothing by mouth until
after your procedure.
(***However may take your BLOOD PRESSURE medication with a SIP of water
on the day of the procedure***)
5. You must have someone drive you home
after the procedure or it will not be preformed. This is for safety. You may
not take a taxi by yourself or ride the bus. You may have a friend/family pick
you up at the designated pick up area. If you give us a phone number when you
are being admitted, we will be happy to speak with the person driving you home
and call them and arrange a time to meet them.
6. If you have any questions or need to
cancel, please call 404-355-3200. PLEASE GIVE US AT LEAST 72 HOURS IF YOU NEED
TO CANCEL.
7. Bring
your insurance cards and credit card or check with you.
8. Bring
a list of your Medications.
9. Leave
your car keys and parking ticket with your driver.
10. If you have any
special needs Please notify the staff prior to your procedure (Pacemaker,
Internal Defribullator, Latex Allergy, need interpreter…).
11. Our Center
closes at 5 pm. Please have a phone number available to contact your ride to
pick you up prior to this time. Wear comfortable clothes to your procedure.
12. Colonoscopy
patients plan to be with us for at least 2 ½ hours from arrival time. Endoscopy
patients plan to be here at least 2 hours from arrival time.
PLEASE NOTE:
When you receive your statement from this procedure, there will be an invoice for the Doctor’s fee, an invoice for the Endoscopy center (Supplies and Nursing care) and you may receive a separate bill from the Laboratory doctor who examines any tissue that is sent.

***If your insurance does not cover this procedure and you have been notified you need to pay, Please bring a credit card (VISA, MASTERCARD). If paying by check, bring 2 checks with you (One for the Doctor’s fee and one for the center) ***
