Colonoscopy Preparation Instructions

Rapid Non-Colyte Prep with Mag Citrate

 

Location:       PIEDMONT HOSPITAL GI LAB

(Circle one) Report directly to the hospital GI Lab in 77 building on _________________ at _____________ am/pm.

Enter at Collier Road entrance. Park in the “North” parking deck. Take elevator to the bridge level (BR). Sign will say “Bridge to Hospital”. Get off at the bridge level.

Walk over the glassed in covered bridge. Turn right and then left. Look for sign to GI Lab. Check in at the window when you enter the GI Lab. You will be registered there.

DIGESTIVE HEALTHCARE ENDOSCOPY LAB (Our Office)

(Building 95, Suite 4075) Report to the office on __________at __________ am/pm.

Enter at the Collier Road entrance. Park in the “South” parking deck. Take the elevator to the “Orange Level”. Cross over the glassed in covered bridge. You are now in the 95 building. You do not have to

check in at the hospital. Go up to the 4th floor and look for Suite 4075. Sign in at the window. If someone is sitting at the window, let them know you have arrived.

 


                             You Need to Buy:

1.     One bottle Magnesium Citrate

2.     Fleets Phospha-soda, buffered saline laxative

3.     Dulcolax tables (need 2 tables)

4.     3 Fleet enemas


 

YOU MAY CONTINUE TO TAKE YOUR CELEBREX AND VIOXX UP UNTIL YOUR PROCEDURE.

 

2 weeks prior to procedure

If you are on Plavix, get your doctor’s permission to stop taking the drug.

 

1 week prior to procedure

Stop taking Aspirin, Ibuprofen, Motrin, Advil, Aleve or arthritis medications for 7 days prior and 7 days after your procedure especially if you are going to have a polyp removed.

 

Stop taking vitamin E and iron supplements one week prior to procedure.

 

If you are on Coumadin you must get your doctor’s permission to stop this drug. If we remove a polyp, we will let you know when you can start back on it.

 

Procedure Day

You may take your blood pressure medication with a sip of water on the day of your procedure.


 

 Procedure Preparations

 

  1. On the day before your procedure _______________ begin a clear liquid diet. You may have beverages such as tea, coffee, carbonated drinks, strained fruit juices, Popsicles (not red) jello (no red jell-o), broth or bouillon. No creamed soups or milk products. You may have clear liquids up until midnight the day before your procedure.

 

  1. Take one bottle of Magnesium Citrate the morning before your procedure. Drink it completely and follow it with 2 large glasses of water.

 

  1. At 3:00pm, take one of Fleets Phospho-soda, buffered saline laxative, (1 and ½ ounces). Follow this with 2 large glasses of water.

 

  1. At 6:00 pm, take 2 Dulcolax tablets.

 

  1. Take one Fleet enema at bedtime.

 

  1. Take 2 fleet enemas the morning of your procedure.

 

  1. Nothing to eat or drink after midnight the night before your procedure.

 

  1. You must have someone to drive you home after the procedure or it will not be performed. This is for your safety. You may not take a taxi by yourself or ride the bus. You may have a friend/family member pick you up at the 95 building pick up area. If you give us a phone number when you are being admitted, we will be happy to speak with the person driving you home and call them an arrange a time to meet them.

 

  1. If you have any questions or need to cancel, please call 404-355-3200.

  1. Bring your insurance card with you.

 

  1. Bring a list of your current medications.

 

  1. Leave your car keys and parking ticket with your driver.

 

  1. If you have any special needs, please notify staff prior to your procedure (Interpreter, pacemaker, internal defibrillator, latex allergy).

 

  1. Our center closes at 5 pm. Please have a phone number available to contact your ride to pick you up prior to this time. Wear comfortable clothes to your procedure.

 

  1. Colonoscopy patients plan to be with us for at least 2 ½ hours from arrival time. Endoscopy patients plan to be with here at least 2 hours from arrival time.

PLEASE NOTE:

When you receive your statement from this procedure, there will be an invoice for the Doctor’s fee, an invoice for the Endoscopy center (Supplies and Nursing care) and you may receive a separate bill from the Laboratory doctor who examines any tissue that is sent.
